The State government has decided to hand over the probe into the illegal allotment of sites by the Mandya Urban Development Authority (MUDA) to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

The authority had allegedly illegally allotted 1,821 sites to various persons, including Housing Minister M.H. Ambareesh and C.S. Puttaraju, Mandya MP, in Vivekananda Layout under “non-existing schemes” between 2003 and 2007.

Loss of Rs. 300 cr.

The alleged irregularities had caused a loss of at least Rs. 300 crore to the authority and MUDA Commissioner K. Mathai had submitted an eight-page report, along with 670 pages of documents, to the Urban Development Department on June 4.

Urban Development Department Secretary T.M. Vasudevarao, on Wednesday, instructed Mr. Mathai to file a first information report against the persons concerned.

Mr. Vasudevarao, in an official letter, said the State government had decided to hand over the case to the CBI.

Meanwhile, Mr. Mathai told presspersons that he would file an FIR against the persons concerned by Saturday.

The MUDA had allotted sites to 1,821 people under schemes such as ‘Lottery’, ‘Nimma Ayke’ (Your choice) and ‘Hechchuvari Baddi’ (additional interest).

The authority had also allotted sites to A.B. Rameshbabu Bandisidde Gowda, Srirangapatna MLA, political leaders, a few journalists and at least 296 government officials under these non-existent schemes.

Thirteen former presidents and commissioners of MUDA and several engineers were allegedly involved in the scam, sources at MUDA said.
