Poultry farm owners told to take precautionary steps

Koppal district administration has instructed poultry farm owners to take precautionary measures, including maintaining cleanliness in poultry farms and providing safety equipment to workers, to prevent hens and chicks from being affected by bird flu.

Presiding over a district-level coordination committee meeting to review the precautionary measures taken to prevent bird flu here on Wednesday, B.L. Pravin Kumar, Additional Deputy Commissioner, made it clear that there were no reports of bird flu in the district and there was no need for the people to panic.

There are 27 layer poultry farms with 42 lakh birds, 32 broiler poultry farms with 1.8 lakh birds.

‘Cleanliness must’

And, cleanliness should be maintained around the farms besides providing safety kits, including masks and shoes, to workers, he said and directed the officials to gear up to tackle the disease if it was noticed besides monitoring the transportation of birds from Kalaburagi and Bidar districts into Koppal.

Jayaram, Deputy Director, Animal Husbandry, Srikant Basur, District Health Officer, and M.M. Kattimani, District Surveillance Officer, were present.
