All police stations functioned normally in Udupi district and police constables reported for duty on Saturday.

K. Annamalai, Superintendent of Police told presspersons here that all police constables, barring one, had reported for duty. The lone police constable had taken casual leave with prior permission. Mr. Annamalai and senior police officers had visited police stations in the district on Friday and had held talks with constables and assured them that the government was seized of their demands.

When a police constable posted outside the District Offices Complex here on Saturday was asked if he was pressurized to attend duty, he merely smiled and said nothing.

Meanwhile, various organizations and some family members of police constables took out a procession in support of the demands of police constables from DC Circle to District Offices Complex here.

Ramadevi, mother of a constable, said that the State government should increase the salaries of the constables. Funds and better facilities should be made available for the education of the children of constables from pre-nursuery to higher education from the Police Welfare Fund.

Jayanti Shetty, wife of a constable, said that there should be an improvement in the living conditions of the constables. An increase in salaries and allowances was a must. Better facilities must be provided to the constables.

The members of organizations such as Udupi Zilla Nagarika Samiti, Karmikara Vedike, National Environment Conservation Federation, Karnataka Rakshana Vedike, Ashrayadata Autorickshaw Operators Union and some retired police personnel, stood at the gates of the District Offices Complex and shouted slogans demanding better facilities for police constables.

They later submitted their memorandums to Additional Deputy Commissioner G. Anuradha, who assured to forward it to the Home Department.
