Police recover 30 stolen cellphones

The city police have arrested a 36-year-old man and recovered 30 stolen mobile phones, valued at Rs. 5 lakh, from him.

The police said that the accused, Syed Umar, a resident of KEB quarters in Udayagiri, had allegedly stolen 50 mobile phones, valued at Rs. 8 lakh, from a store near the Vijayanagar water tankrecently.

On Sunday, the Vijayanagar police found Syed moving suspiciously near the Rane Madras factory. Upon interrogation, the accused confessed to have stolen the mobile phones from the store.

While he had sold about 20 mobile phones to truck drivers and others, he had hidden the remaining 30 phones on the terrace of his house.

The police recovered the 30 mobile phones and the two-wheeler he had used to commit the crime.
