Passengers put to hardship in Chamarajanagar

July 26, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:55 am IST - Chamarajanagar:

Though the district administration had made adequate alternative arrangements in view of the KSRTC strike on Monday, passengers, especially students, struggled to reach their destinations.

Deputy Commissioner B. Ramu had not declared holiday for schools and colleges in the district as private buses to rural areas operated as usual. The district administration has permitted 35 additional private bus services in the view of strike. Most of the government employees depend on KSRTC buses and trains to reach their destinations.

Though private buses were arranged to all the taluk centres, most of the students and government employees, who use monthly passes, remained in their houses.

The strike also affected services to Tamil Nadu and Kerala. All the KSRTC bus stand wore a deserted look. Attendance in schools and colleges was also low. According to sources, the fear of being charged heavily by private operators, like maxicabs, autorickshaws and private buses, forced people to stay indoors.

Business was also affected at the bazaar streets in all the taluk centres. The district police had made adequate security arrangements and no untoward incident was reported from anywhere in the district. As many as 380 employees are on an indefinite strike from Monday.
