The Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) on Tuesday approved a proposal to upgrade the infrastructure for supplying drinking water to the city at a cost of Rs. 156 crore under the Union government’s Amrut scheme.
Mayor B.L. Bhyrappa announced the MCC’s resolution to approve the scheme after a prolonged debate with members cutting across party lines.
Costs split
While the MCC needs to bear 30 per cent of the project cost, the Centre and State will spend 50 per cent and 20 per cent respectively.
The infrastructure upgrade work at Melapura, Hongalli 2nd and 3rd Stage, Belagola and Kabini drinking water supply projects will be taken up under the supervision of Karnataka Urban Water Supply and Sewerage Board, which has been appointed as the State government’s representative for the Amrut scheme.
Vani Vilas Water Works officials informed the House that the city can receive a total of 150 MLD of water from Melapura scheme against the existing 68 MLD after four more pumps of 1,450 HP are installed at Melapura and four more centrifugal pumps of 1,100 HP are installed at the water purification plant at Ramanahalli, besides taking up works on 66 KV power station and other pipeline work at a cost of Rs. 57.89 crore.
