To condemn the Union and State governments for their alleged “anti-farmer policies,” the Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha and Hasiru Sene have organised a rally in Bengaluru on May 27. Around one lakh farmers from the State are expected to participate in the rally.

Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, state convener of Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha Subhash Ikur said that both the Union and State governments had not implemented any programme to prevent farmer suicides owing to drought.

He also alleged that the governments failed to distribute compensation to the families of those farmers who committed suicide.

The rally in Bengaluru is being organised to focus on these issues, he said and added that national convener of Raitha Ekta organisation, Devendra Sharma, would inaugurate the rally.

Bollywood actor and theatre person Nana Patekar and actor Yash would participate in the rally, Mr. Subhash Ikur said. The rally would also demand waiver of farm loans.

State president of Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha Kodihalli Chandrashekhar will address the rally.

Around 1,000 farmers from the district are expected to participate in the rally to urge the Union and State governments to fulfil their long-pending demands, including fixation of scientific prices for their produce, and implementation of irrigation projects to improve the socio-economic status of farmers, at the earliest, Mr. Subhash Ikur said.
