The University of Mysore is offering a two-year M.Sc. course in sericulture and seri-biotechnology.
The course aims to train students in the procedures involved in silk technology, seri-biotechnology, by-product utilisation and entrepreneurial development, according to a press release from the Department of Studies in Sericulture Sciences.
Candidates with B.Sc. in Sericulture or any life science/biological science and agricultural science subjects are eligible.
Department chairman Manjunath said the course would be ideal for those students who want to set up vermicompost units, silkworm egg production centres and chawki-rearing units.
Those who complete the course can work as assistant professors in degree colleges and universities; as scientists in the Central Silk Board and the Karnataka State Sericulture Research and Development Institute, Bangalore; as extension officers in the Department of Sericulture, Government of Karnataka; as research officers in Research and Development laboratories and pharmaceutical companies.
