The office of Hassan Taluk Social Welfare Officer, built on the premises of Pre-Matric Girls Hostel near Hassan Institute of Medical Sciences, was inaugurated on Sunday.
Till now, the office was situated in a rented building in K.R. Puram extension in the city.
Minister of State for Sericulture and Animal Husbandry A. Manju inaugurated the building, constructed at an estimated Rs. 96 lakh. The Minister, later, interacted with students of the hostel and listened to their problems.
N.R. Purushottam, District Social Welfare Officer, told The Hindu , “All these years the Taluk Social Welfare Officer was operating from a rented building. A year ago a new building was sanctioned. The Nirmithi Kendra has completed the construction in a year,” he said.
The officer said the new building would be helpful for students and the public as well. “As the new building is located at the heart of the city, the students and public can reach the office easily,” he added.
