Meeting discusses long-pending vacancies in ULBs

August 25, 2016 05:49 pm | Updated 05:49 pm IST - BELAGAVI:

At an official meeting between the chairman of the 4th State Finance Commission C.G. Chinnaswamy and senior officials of various Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) and the district administration, Deputy Commissioner N. Jayaram drew attention to the vacancies in the ULBs and various other government departments here on Thursday afternoon.

He pointed out that for various reasons the successive governments did not increase the number of posts in ULBs and various other departments proportionately with the increase in the number of programmes and schemes and the population.

As Mr. Chinnaswamy stressed on the need for streamlining the administrations in 34 ULBs in the district considering more migration of rural populations to the towns and cities in search of livelihood during next five years, Mr. Jayaram further pointed out at the large number of vacant posts of officials and other staff in ULBs in the district. He said the government had created the existing number of posts in ULBs around four decades ago. Over the period of time, the government initiated several development projects and welfare schemes, but there was no corresponding increase in the staffing pattern, which had obviously put the officials and other employees under stress.

Mr. Chinnaswamy, who appreciated the suggestions of Mr. Jayaram, advised him to submit a detailed proposal and other requirements necessary for streamlining the administration in all the ULBs in the district.

Mayor of Belagavi City Corporation Sarita Patil, Member Secretary of the Commissioner K.R. Niranjan and Belagavi City Corporation Commissioner G. Prabbu were present.
