The Principal District and Sessions Court has awarded life imprisonment to two persons in connection with a murder that took place in February 2013.

According to the police, Hamid and Rafiq Khan, two truck drivers from Tipu Nagar, had differences over financial matters and on sharing of workload. Hamid, along with his friend Shamir, had barged into Rafiq’s house and got into an argument with him. When they assaulted Rafiq, his son raised alarm. When the public gathered, the duo fled.

Rafiq was hospitalised but failed to respond to treatment. The police later arrested both Hamid and Shamir.

They have now been found guilty of the charges. Apart from the life imprisonment sentence, the court has also slapped a fine of Rs. 50,000 on each of them.

In another case, the Third Additional District and Sessions Court has awarded life sentence to a father-son duo for murdering a police constable from Davangere.

Malleshappa, a resident of Sarvajna Nagar in Shivamogga city, and his son Manjunath were arrested by the police on charges of killing Nagaraj, a police constable. According to the police, Nagaraj was married to their relative, and there was a misunderstanding between the couple.

Malleshappa and Manjunath had invited Nagaraj to their house in December 2013 to bring about “an amicable solution”. However, there was a heated argument during the meeting and the duo killed Nagaraj by hitting him with a stone slab.

Apart from the life imprisonment sentence, judge A. Harish has also slapped a fine of Rs. 10,000 each on the duo.
