A peaceful bandh was observed in Kollegal town on Wednesday following the protest call given by supporters of former Revenue Minister V. Srinivas Prasad against his removal from the State Cabinet.

The leader’s supporters staged a rasta roko for about half-an-hour at Achchgal Circle and expressed their ire against Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. The protesters later submitted a memorandum against Ms. Prasad’s removal to the taluk tahsildar.

All business establishments, including hotels, theatres and banks, downed their shutters in support of the bandh. No private buses plied till 2 p.m. Rural bus transportation was worst-affected, with passengers forced to stay bus stands till the buses began operations.

The government hospital and milk booths functioned as usual. Police personnel were deputed at various parts of the town to maintain law and order.
