A delegation of Kabbliga (Koli) community leaders, led by senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Saibanna Borabanda, met Union Minister Ananth Kumar in New Delhi earlier this week and demanded that the community be counted as part of the Schedule Tribes.

The leaders informed the Minister that the community has about 40 lakh members in the State, but has not seen much development because of the lack of facilities provided by the government. Therefore, a majority of them are working as labourers, they said.

Mr. Borabanda said in a release on Thursday that Mr. Ananth Kumar had responded positively and had promised to talk to the department concerned to prepare the documents required to present the matter in front of the Cabinet.
