The State government has reinstated KAS officer E. Vijaya, who attempted suicide recently, as Assistant Commissioner of Hassan sub-division. The Deputy Commissioner has been instructed to obey the Karnataka Administrative Tribunal’s order, which had stayed Ms. Vijaya’s transfer.

Ms. Vijaya was working as Assistant Commissioner of Hassan since January 2015. She was transferred to the Medical Education Department as administrative officer of Hassan Institute of Medical Sciences on June 22. She moved KAT seeking a stay on the transfer on the grounds that she had not completed two years. She got the stay earlier this month.

By then, H.L. Nagaraj, another KAS officer, had assumed charge as Assistant Commissioner in Hassan. Deputy Commissioner of Hassan Umesh Kusugal had sought clarification from the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms on implementing KAT’s order. Even before the DPAR could respond, Ms. Vijaya allegedly attempted suicide at her residence.

Ms. Vijaya has not yet reported to duty, however, political parties and other organisations have demanded that she should be transferred. BJP members staged a protest outside the Deputy Commissioner’s office on Friday urging that she not be allowed to work here.
