Judo player safe in Turkey

The news that the judo player from Belagavi, Geeta Danappagol is safe in Turkey has brought a big relief to her parents and the Sports Department here, thanks to apprehensions due to the unsuccessful military coup.

She is presently in Trabzon, representing India at the ongoing International School Games-2016.

Deputy Director of Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports Basavaraj Hadpad and coach Triveni told The Hindu that they already spoken to Geeta on Saturday morning and also informed about her safety to her father, Kenchappa Danappagol as well.

He said the parents and several sportspersons in the district kept calling the the department’s office to know about Geeta’s safety.

Geeta, a native of Naganur of Gokak taluk, is an inmate of the sports hostel run by the department in the city.

Also, Arjun Halkurki of Bagalkot district and an inmate of department’s sports hostel in Davangere is safe. A wrestler, Arjun has already won a silver medal in the 50kg category, Mr. Hadpad said.
