The district Janata Dal (Secular) extended its support to the demand for establishment of the Karnataka Administrative Tribunal’s bench in the city, even as it joined hands with the Belagavi Bar Association members, whose indefinite dharna and boycott of court work entered tenth day on Wednesday.
District JD(S) general secretary Yusuf A. Athani said that the party workers would organise a protest-demonstration in front of the Suvarna Vidhana Soudha on the first day of the winter session of the state legislature here on Dec 9. The workers will also stage dharna till the government conceded the genuine demand of the BBA and people of the district.
Dr. Athani said the demand for establishment of KAT bench in the city was much more beneficial to the people of the district in more than one way. This would save a lot travelling time and incidental expenses, besides the cases before it could be disposed off in shortest possible time.
Now it was apparent that the Congress government headed by chief minister Siddaramaiah was not only neglecting various developmental needs but also making false promises. The chief minister, law minister T.B. Jayachandra and Congress leaders from the district had already assured that the government would consider the case of both Belagavi and Dharwad, but the delay in making official announcement in this regard had resulted in unrest among the agitating advocates of the district, he said.
The JD(S) demanded the government to not delay further and fulfil the promise of establishing the KAT bench at Belagavi immediately.
