Parts of Hassan and Chikkamagaluru districts have been receiving moderate to heavy rainfall for the last two days.

The inflow at the Hemavathi reservoir at Gorur near Hassan has been increasing gradually.

The incessant rain in both the districts has also affected normal life. Many roads are inundated and waterbodies are filling up.

Motorists are finding it tough as so do schoolchildren and the office-going public.

Hassan district received an average of 45.4 mm of rainfall against the normal of 7.3 mm expected in the 24 hours ending at 8.30 a.m. on Wednesday.

Valalahalli in Sakleshpur recorded the maximum rainfall of 228.5 mm.

Chikkamagaluru district recorded an average rainfall of 56.8 mm against the normal of 18.3 mm of rainfall. The maximum of 216 mm was recorded at Bedar village in Sringeri taluk.

The inflow into the reservoir on Monday stood at 369 cusecs, while on Wednesday it stood at 4,440 cusecs.

As the water level at the reservoir remained low for the past one month, residents of Hassan and other places were worried over the availability of drinking water.

With the increase in inflow, the water level is also rising.

As on Wednesday, the level stood at 2,866 ft and the gross storage is 5.31 tmcft. Two days ago, the water stored in the reservoir was only 4.5 tmcft.

Last year on this day the water stored in the reservoir was 21.91 tmcft.
