The city’s depleting green cover has come under focus of the MUDA, which has set aside Rs. 5.64 crore for increasing the tree cover.

The existing open spaces and parks will be developed, while one lakh saplings will be planted in the current year in various MUDA layouts, including Lalitadrinagar, Shantaveri Gopalgowda Nagar, Ravindranath Tagore Nager, besides various private layouts within the MUDA jurisdiction.

The issue also came up during the post-budget discussion when Tanvir Sait, MLA, expressed concern over erosion of greenery and pointed out that despite Chamundi Hills in Mysuru, the open spaces and greenery constituted only 6.44 per cent of the land coming under the Mysuru-Nanjangud Local Planning Area 2031.
