If everything goes as per plans, the transit campuses of the Indian Institutes of Technology, Dharwad and Goa, will be inaugurated by the month-end.

Deputy Commissioner S.B. Bommanahalli told The Hindu that IIT-Bombay, which is the mentor for both the IITs, had decided to hold the inaugural function of both the campuses on consecutive days.

July 30 and July 31 had been tentatively fixed as the dates of inauguration. IIT-Dharwad would be inaugurated on either one of these days, he said.

Academic activities would begin from August 1. All 120 students, including five from Karnataka in the first batch of IIT-Dharwad, have been asked to report here on July 31. Admissions have been completed to Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering and Electronics courses.

Mr. Bommanahalli said that the works on the transit campus were in the final stage and they would be completed by July 20. The administrative block, student’s hostels, staff quarters, laboratories, computer laboratory and others were ready. Interior designing was under progress.

Even the technical team from IIT-Bombay had expressed satisfaction over the arrangements being made, he said.

There are reports about a proposal to invite Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the inauguration. However, Mr. Bommanahalli refused to comment on this and said it was left to IIT-Bombay to decide who should inaugurate the campus.

However, it would be a matter of pride if the Prime Minister inaugurates the new IIT, he added.

All the 120 selected students, including five from Karnataka, have been asked to report by July 31
