Hospital gets fertility treatment centre

The Basaveshwar Teaching and General Hospital has upgraded facilities by introducing fertility treatment Centre in the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department and Hearing and vertigo evaluation Centre in ENT department.

President of the Hyderabad Karnataka Education Society Basavaraj Bhimalli and Medical Superintendent of the hospital S.S. Harwal addressing presspersons in Kalaburagi city on Tuesday said nearly Rs.25 lakh has been spent on the advanced equipments set up at fertility centre, while the equipments at Hearing and vertigo evaluation Centre in the hospital was set up at Rs.10 lakh.

Gangambika Nisty, Head of the Obstetrics and Gynaecology (OBG) Department, said a team of experienced doctors would offer advanced fertility treatment in Andrology Laboratory such as ovulation induction, follicular tracking, In-Vitro Fertilisation (IVF), intrauterine insemination (IUI).

Doctors from OBG department Bhagyashree Patil and Hema Patil said that IVF treatment needs experienced, well-entrenched teams. Dr. Patil added that the newly established fertility centre can provide Assisted Reproductive Techniques (ART) including IVF, intra-cytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) and surgical sperm retrieval techniques, apart from fertility-enhancing laparoscopic, endoscopic and hysteroscopy surgeries.

Using the laminar air flow bench, Cryocan, Incubator and Centrifuge machines we would offer the best of treatment at affordable prices, Dr. Patil added.

The Hearing and vertigo evaluation Centre in hospital comprises of Oto acoustic emissions (OAE) system, Brainstem evoked response audiometry (BERA) and Electro nystagmography (ENG). Head of the ENT department, C.B. Nandyal said that the OAE test will help diagnose hearing loss as early as the first day of birth. Dr. Nandyal added that the congenital hearing defects can lead to impaired hearing and speech if treatment is not provided before attaining the age of 6.

He said the BERA will measure responses in brain waves at various levels that are stimulated by auditory system, this tool is efficient to detect hearing defect in newborns and infants. The Electro nystagmography (ENG) measures involuntary eye movements.

The HKE Society Eye bank and Keratoplasty Centre established in the hospital has performed 50 corneal transplantation in one year. As many as 1230 people have pledged their eyes, of which 92 eyes have been collected, Rajashree Reddy from Ophthalmology department said.
