‘GPs not issuing land records’

February 13, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:37 am IST - Udupi:

K. Udaya Kumar Shetty, member of Bharatiya Janata Party State executive committee, said on Thursday that the people in the rural areas were suffering as gram panchayats (GPs) were not issuing ‘pahani’ records under Forms 9 and 11 of Karnataka Panchayat Raj Rules (Taxes and Fees) for sale and purchase of land in the villages of Udupi district.

Addressing presspersons here, Mr. Shetty said that this had made it difficult for the people to sell or purchase lands in the rural areas. Those who wanted to sell their own lands to raise money for marriage or other exigencies in rural areas could not do so.

They could not even pledge their lands to either banks or cooperative societies because the gram panchayats had stopped issuing Forms 9 and 11 records, he added.
