Deepa Mahantesh Lingadalli, a student of MKCR Girls High School in Bailhongal town, died after consuming pesticide here on Tuesday.

She consumed pesticide due to depression after she learnt that she had failed in the SSLC examination. She got to know about her result at a cyber centre in the town on Monday. She was deeply depressed after knowing that she had failed in four subjects, while all her friends had cleared the exam with good marks. She had cleared only the English and Mathematics papers.

The police said that Deepa consumed the pesticide on Monday night and revealed it to her mother as she could not bear pain in her stomach. She was rushed to the taluk hospital and subsequently, shifted to the district government hospital in Belagavi, where she failed to respond to treatment.

In fact, her parents had consoled her and said that she could take the supplementary exam and need not be upset with the result, her farther Mr. Lingadalli said.
