After using the agrarian crisis to promote his film Rocket, actor-director Satish of Lucia fame has finally decided to keep his promise of helping the families of farmers who committed suicide due to financial constraints.
Mr. Satish, popularly known as ‘Ninasam’ Satish , had produced Rocket under his own production banner, Satish Picture House. The film hit the screens in November last when the agrarian crisis was at its peak. He had addressed presspersons in Mandya, Ballari, Vijayapura and other places and announced financial assistance to the families of debt-ridden farmers who had ended their lives.
However, after the release of Rocket , he did not meet even one such family .
“I had promised to set aside 10 per cent of the profits generated from Rocket to be handed over to the families of farmers who had committed suicide. Unfortunately, I could not do so as the film failed to pull in crowds,” said Mr. Satish, also a native of Mandya district.
When The Hindu contacted him , Mr. Satish said he had dedicated Rocket to farmers. “As the son of a farmer, I can understand the pain and plight of the farmers, and of the family members of those who committed suicide. I will visit Mandya in April and help at least 10 families,” he said.
Meanwhile, Mr. Satish has planned to establish a trust to help farmers. He is known for portraying rural culture and activities in his films.
