The State government’s plan to set up Tubinakere township along the Bengaluru-Mysuru highway on the outskirts of the town seems to have triggered protests by the farmers.
Tubinakere township is the dream project of Housing Minister M.H. Ambareesh. Around 800 acres has been identified for the proposed project.
Alleging that Mr. Ambareesh, who is also the Mandya district in-charge, was toying with their livelihood, the residents of Tubinakere staged a protest outside the Deputy Commissioner’s office here on Tuesday and raised slogans against the Minister.
The residents alleged that they were neither consulted nor any public consultation held to discuss the project.
The protesters claimed that since over 90 per cent of farmers in the area were small and marginal farmers, the government should drop the project.
The proposed project would affect nearly 800 families. “If Mr. Ambareesh wants to develop the town and district, he should plan such projects on barren government lands,” they said.
