Early morning jolt for family as burglars make away with gold, cash

July 15, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:55 am IST - MYSURU:

The inmates of a house in Bannimantap woke up on Thursday to find their house burgled by miscreants who had melted the glass window next to the front door to unlatch the bolt.

JSS Medical College student Nishant Kumar and his mother Tinky Singh, who were staying in a house on the first floor in Bannimantap C Layout, had gone to sleep around 2 a.m. When Nishant woke up on Thursday morning, he found gold jewellery weighing around 80 grams, Rs. 2,000 cash and a mobile phone worth Rs. 15,000, kept in an unoccupied room, missing. He later found out that the window pane adjacent to the main door had been melted and the bolt unlatched.

Ashok Kumar, inspector of N.R. Mohalla police station, said the family did not hear anything as melted glass does not make any sound when it is broken. “The inmates had bolted the door from inside by only latching the tower bolt. The bolts at the middle and lower end were not latched,” he said.

The mother-son duo, who hail from Jharkhand, are due to return to their native in six months after Nishant’s examination.

Woman held for stealing bangles from shop

The city police have arrested a 24-year-old woman for allegedly stealing gold bangles from a jewellery showroom on Ashoka Road.

The accused is Deepa, a resident of Kuvempunagar, who visited the jewellery shop on June 4 posing as a customer. After diverting the attention of the attendant, she managed to steal two gold bangles valued at Rs. 75,000. The Lashkar Mohalla police perused CCTV footage, generated a portrait of the accused and traced her earlier this week.
