DySP suicide: BJP leaders protest against govt, CM

Several BJP leaders, including MP Shobha Karandlaje, MLAs R. Ashok, S. Muniraju and B.N. Vijayakumar, MLC Ashwathnarayan, staged a protest on Friday morning against the state government with regard to suicide of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) M.K. Ganapathy.

DySP Ganapathy committed suicide at a lodge in Madikeri town on Thursday evening. He has accused former Home Minister K.J. George senior officers in the department of mental harassment.

Raising slogans against the Congress government and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, the BJP leaders demanded a probe into the suicide. They also demanded the resignation of Mr. George, who has been accused by DySP Ganapathy of harassment, and current Home Minister G. Parameshwara.

The BJP leaders had initially decided march from Mysore Bank Circle to the office of the Director General and Inspector General of Police on Nrupathunga Road and submit a memorandum to Dg&IGP Om Prakash. Later, on being denied permission by the jurisdictional police, they decided to march till the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Bengaluru Urban, at Kandaya Bhavan on K.G. Road. However, the police detained them before they could reach Kandaya Bhavan.

Traffic movement was severely affected in the central business district, including Seshadri Road, K.G. Road, Hudson Circle and surrounding roads, because of the protest.
