The Department of Public Instruction (DPI) has planned to put a series of measures in place stressing upon quality education to improve the SSLC (Secondary School Leaving Certificate) results in the district.
The department had organised an orientation programme at the District Institute of Educational and Training (DIET) office here on Tuesday. The headmasters of various government, aided and unaided schools attended the programme. Bharathi, principal, DIET, inaugurated the programme.
Addressing participants, she stressed upon the need to instil confidence in students.
Speaking to The Hindu, Deputy Director for Public Instruction, M. Shivamadappa, said that the DPI has planned to organise a series of programmes that would help place Mandya in the top five districts next year. “Our aim is to motivate students to engage them in curricular activities for better results,” he said.
Workshops, discussions, speeches by the merit students and toppers, parent-teachers meetings, preliminary tests and examinations and special classes have been planned across the district to improve academic performance.
The department will also conduct personal counselling sessions for students who score low in class tests and preparatory examinations, a Block Education Officer said.
Mandya was sixth in the State in the SSLC examination during 2014-15. However, it slipped to the 21st place in 2015-16.
