Distressed farmer ends life

A 54-year-old farmer was found hanging from a tree in his farmland at Sollepura in Maddur taluk of Mandya district on Tuesday.

The Besagarahalli police gave the name of the deceased as Rajanna from Sollepura.

According to his family members, Mr. Rajanna had taken the extreme step owing to financial constraints.

He was owning around 1.5 acres of land and took loans of around Rs. 3 lakh from private financiers. However, he was unable to repay the loan owing to a huge loss he incurred due to drought, according to his family members.Officials from the departments of police, revenue and agriculture, visited Sollepura. Meanwhile, residents of the village have demanded suitable compensation to the family of Mr. Rajanna.Besagarahalli police have registered a case.
