Disconnect taps connected to rising mains, Minister directs officials

September 11, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:43 am IST - BALLARI:

P.T. Parameshwar Naik, Minister of State for Labour and district in-charge, has directed officials of the Ballari City Corporation to conduct a drive to disconnect drinking water taps connected directly to the rising mains.

Presiding over a meeting to review the damage caused by flash floods after the recent rain and problems related to drinking water supply, here on Wednesday, the Minister blamed the corporation officials when he was told that water was being supplied once in seven to eight days. “Water is available aplenty. But the problem is mainly due to improper maintenance of the distribution system and flaws in maintenance. Initiate steps to correct it. Conduct a drive to disconnect connections tapping the rising mains directly. If things are not improved, then be ready to face action,” he said.

Sameer Shukla, Deputy Commissioner, expressed concern over the dilly-dallying of officials on the issue of disconnecting direct connections from the rising mains. “I have given clear instructions. Even the Minister has now issued directions. You [officials] have got good support and start the work and also book criminal cases against those coming in the way,” he added.
