Development works are under way in 3,351 tandas in State, says Jalaja Naik

Skill development training programmes to be designed for Banjara community

Reiterating the State government’s commitment to the all-round development of tandas (tribal hamlets inhabited by Banjara community), Jalaja Naik, chairperson, Karnataka State Tanda Development Corporation, said that development works were under way in 3,351 tandas across the State.

She was addressing presspersons at the conference hall in the office of the Deputy Commissioner here on Thursday.

“The State government is keen on uplifting Banjara community with multi-dimensional development approach. It is making serious efforts to improve the academic performance and technological skills of the Banjara youth so as to enhance their competence and make them able enough to grab employment opportunities in the highly competitive environment. It is also keen on improving their living conditions developing infrastructure in tandas,” she said.

CC roads at the cost of Rs. 6.92 crore and sevalal community halls at the cost of Rs. 9.12 crore have been built in 200 tandas recently, she added. Ms. Naik said that special skill development training programmes would be designed exclusively for young Banjara men and women and conducted at all the universities in the State.

‘Convert tandas’

Ms. Naik also said that the State government should work expeditiously on converting tandas into revenue villages with basic facilities and added that already the government had ordered the conversion of 63 tandas of the total 203 into revenue villages.
