The Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation authorities on Tuesday cleared encroachments on corporation property adjacent to NH 4 near Gabbur Cross on the outskirts of Hubballi.

The drive was taken up after the building owners failed to clear the encroachments within 90 days as per the direction issued by a local court.

A team comprising Assistant Commissioner and Assistant Engineers of the HDMC initiated the drive and cleared four structures including a school building built illegally. The authorities said that they had undertaken the drive in accordance with the court direction.

Legal issue

The HDMC authorities had previously cleared most of the encroachments that were hindering the development of NH 4 near Gabbur Cross. However, owners of four buildings had moved the court, which had given them 90 days to clear the encroachments on their own.

As the building owners did not clear the encroachments even after the deadline was over, the authorities initiated the drive on Tuesday.

Assistant Commissioner D.H. Kiresur said that the expenditure incurred for the demolition drive would be added to the property tax of the respective property owners.
