Construction on open ground opposed

The residents of Kote Road staged a protest under the banner of Kalpataru Yuvaka Sangha in the city on Wednesday demanding that the City Corporation not allow the construction of a community hall and a hostel on the open ground adjacent to Korpallaiah Chatra in ward number 12.

Addressing the protest meet, Subrahmanya, a functionary of the sangha, said the ground is used as a playground by children from the locality as well as the students of the Government Higher Primary School and Aiyyappa School. People gather in large numbers there during the immersion of Ganesha idols in Tunga river and during the Teppotsava ceremony at Kote Seetharamanjaneya temple, he said.

He said the corporation had ignored the locals’ opposition and allotted the land to the Kalikaparameshwari temple committee to construct a community hall and a hostel. He urged the corporation to withdraw the decision. Sangha functionaries Undiganal Rajgopal, S.G. Chandrashekhar, Harish, Chethan and Suresh took part in the protest.
