‘Conduct survey for new railway overbridge at Indrali’

May 23, 2016 12:00 am | Updated September 12, 2016 08:01 pm IST - Udupi:

Shobha Karandlaje, MP, has directed the officials of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and Konkan Railway to conduct a joint survey for the widening of the railway overbridge at Indrali on the Udupi-Manipal Road here. She was chairing the District Vigilance and Monitoring Committee meeting at the District Offices Complex, here recently.

Earlier, an official from Konkan Railway said it had given its nod for widening of the overbridge at Indrali to the Public Works Department (PWD). But now the Udupi-Manipal Road has been upgraded from State Highway to (Malpe-Tirthahalli) National Highway 169A. As a result, the overbridge had passed from the PWD to NHAI.

Intervening, Ms. Karandlaje said that the Konkan Railway was undertaking doubling of its track on the Konkan Railway route. Hence, the NHAI should factor this into its calculation while widening the overbridge. Hence a joint survey should be conducted, she said.

Meanwhile, the officials of the Ports and Fisheries informed the meeting that the construction of the breakwater at Gangolli fisheries harbour would start soon at an estimated cost of Rs. 1.22 crore. It would take four years to complete the work.

Deputy Commissioner R. Vishal directed the officials of the Fisheries Department to enforce the ban on fishing period from June 1 to July 31. Sand extraction activities would also be banned during this period, he said.
