L. Somanna, president of the Mysore district unit of BSR Congress, has lodged a complaint against BJP candidate B. Sriramulu on the charge of making threats and not repaying loans of Rs. 2.96 crore.

In the complaint lodged at Bellary Rural police station on Sunday night, Mr. Somanna said he had given Rs. 2.96 crore to Mr. Sriramulu who had made certain promises to him (Mr. Somanna). Mr. Somanna said that Mr. Sriramulu gave him a cheque dated March 20, 2014 for the amount, which he (Mr. Somanna) presented at the Tumkur Grain Merchants’ Cooperative Bank on the same day.

However, on March 25, the cheque was returned by the bank with the message that the ‘payment was stopped by the drawer’. According to Mr. Somanna, Mr. Sriramulu threatened him when he asked him about repaying the amount.

Reacting to the complaint, Mr. Sriramulu told presspersons here on Monday that he had signed a blank cheque, which then went missing. He said that he wasn’t aware how Mr. Somanna got it.

Mr. Sriramulu said his accountant had written a letter to the bank about losing the cheque and had asked the bank not to clear it. Accusing Mr. Somanna of using the cheque to tarnish his image, Mr. Sriramulu said that he would fight it out legally.

Meanwhile, Somashekar Reddy, BJP leader, has accused the Congress of trying to malign Mr. Sriramulu’s image by getting a “false case” registered against him.
