The conferring of the CGK (C.G. Krishnaswamy) puraskar on well-known theatre personality Shankar Naidu and the rendering of popular revolutionary songs and ‘ranga geete’ marked the celebration of CGK’s birth anniversary here on Monday.

Ballari was among several districts in the State to celebrate CGK’s birthday. Sanskruti Prakashan and Manjunath Kala Balaga organised a programme at Raghava Kala Mandir.

Speaking on the occasion, P. Abdul, a theatre personality from Hosapete, while recalling his association with the CGK, said that the latter was known for his innovative and creative artworks. He underlined the need for the theatre groups to continue the struggle begun by CGK against injustice and also in creating awareness among people about various issues through theatre.

Shankar Naidu, an advocate, was felicitated in recognition of his service to theatre for over three decades.

Bylaata artiste Sujatamma Rameshgouda Patil, theatre activist Rameshgouda Patil, honorary president of Raghava Kala Mandir and connoisseur K. Chennappa, president of Ballari district Kannada Sahitya Parishat Siddaram Kalmath, president of Raghava Kalamandir B. Siddanagouda, and dance master Jeelan Basha were prominent among others present.

Earlier, Hulagappa, a folk singer, rendered revolutionary and ranga geete along with his team.
