The Swami Vivekananda Youth Movement (SVYM), which is engaged in sustainable development of slums in Mysuru, conducted a capacity building programme recently for human and social capital in slums of Kalyanagiri and Bharath Nagar through Prerepana project.
The project, which is funded by N.R. Foundation, seeks to address and resolve the critical needs of slum dwellers and strengthening the key social development indicators like issues of health, including alcohol de-addiction, education of children and youth, besides facilitating linkages for social entitlements in the community, stated a press release.
During the last five years, SVYM has executed the first phase of the project to create awareness on issues crucial for development by establishing learning centres, providing career guidance and counselling, besides strengthening community-based institutions, the statement added.
The second phase of the project will cover seven slums of Mysuru — Karakushalanagar, Metagalli Ekalavyanagara, Bharath Nagar, Kalyangiri-KSB colony, Vande Matharam, Shivarathreshwara Nagar and Kesare Kurimandi. Representatives of the residents of the slums from Bharath Nagar and Kalyanagiri attended the capacity building programme held recently at the V-LEAD premises in Hebbal.
District Programme Officer of Women and Child Develoment Nagesh Bilva, besides Councillor for Hebbal, Shivanna and Councillor for Kalyangiri, Showkath Pasha, attended the programme.
