Call for protecting children’s health

Underlining the need to protect the health of children by offering best medical support, Minister for Public Works H.C. Mahadevappa on Saturday called upon paediatricians to implement programmes launched by United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef).

The responsibility of addressing the health needs of children lies on paediatricians, the Minister said after inaugurating the first annual conference of the Indian Academy of Paediatrics Bangalore and National Mid-Term Infectious Disease CME the at the NIMHANS Convention Centre here.

“By providing basic needs of children, medical community can make the country strong,” he said.

Lack of immunity

The Minister said that children were succumbing to various ailments because of lack of immunity. “Most of them are succumbing to contagious diseases and this is affecting the country’s progress,” he said.

It was important to provide nutritious food and quality education to children to ensure the country’s progress, he said.

Paediatricians Govinda Raju and K. Jayoji Rao were presented ‘Shishu Vaidya Ratna’ award on the occasion.
