BJP seeks probe against KDA chairperson

April 05, 2014 02:21 am | Updated May 21, 2016 08:38 am IST - BANGALORE:

The BJP on Friday demanded a Lokayukta probe into Kannada Development Authority (KDA) chairperson Mukhyamantri Chandru handing over the printing of publicity material worth crores of rupees to a private printing press without calling for tenders.

Ashwathnarayan, BJP MLC, alleged that Mr. Chandru, who has now joined the Congress, never bothered to call for tenders though it was mandatory to follow such norms under the transparency Act. He also accused Mr. Chandru of failing to utilise the funds to implement the report submitted by former KDA chairperson Baraguru Ramachandrappa on the development of Kannada schools in the border areas. “Instead, he used funds to the tune of Rs. 1.9 crore to organise cultural and literary festivals.”

Despite being an artiste himself, he failed to provide proper remuneration to the artistes who performed at these events, he alleged.
