Members of the National Students’ Union of India staged a protest in front of the residence of BJP State president B.S. Yeddyurappa at Vinobha Nagar on Friday, demanding that he pressure Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene in the Cauvery issue.

Addressing the protest meet, Chethan K., secretary of NSUI, said the Supreme Court order to release Cauvery waters to Tamil Nadu was against the interests of Karnataka. He called upon the BJP MPs of the State to apprise Mr. Modi of the ground reality and get him to resolve the matter amicably.

Srijith D.L., president of the NSUI district unit, condemned the BJP for not attending the all-party meeting on Cauvery convened by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on September 21. He said it was unfortunate that in a situation where political parties should stand together, the BJP was not playing the game.
