Acting on a complaint lodged by Vikram, an activist of Bharatiya Janata Party Yuva Morcha, the Jayanagar police have registered a case against Gopalakrishna G., a member of Shivamogga City Corporation, with regard to a dispute on clearing garbage.

In the complaint, Mr. Vikram has alleged that Mr. Gopalakrishna had verbally abused and assaulted him.

According to sources, Mr. Vikram had uploaded photos of garbage dumped on the roadside in the ward represented by Mr. Gopalakrishna on his Facebook profile. In the complaint, Mr. Vikram said that Mr. Gopalakrishna had raised objection to the photos and asked for them to be removed. Mr. Vikram alleged that the issue resulted in a verbal altercation in which Mr. Gopalakrishna abused him with foul words, and intimidated and assaulted him.

Based on the complaint, the police have booked cases under sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 341 (wrongful restraint), 504 (intentional insult to provoke breach of peace) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of Indian Penal Code against Mr. Gopalakrishna. The activists of BJP Yuva Morcha also staged a protest in the city on Saturday demanding the arrest of Mr. Gopalakrishna.

Mr. Gopalakrishna said that false allegations were levelled against him as part of a conspiracy planned by BJP leaders to tarnish his image.

He also said that he would initiate legal proceedings against Mr. Vikram for defaming him.
