An action plan for system strengthening, metering of installations and feeder separation in the Gulbarga Electricity Supply Company (Gescom) in Kalaburagi and Yadgir districts was approved at a meeting chaired by the Leader of the Congress in the Lok Sabha M. Mallikajun Kharge here on Saturday.
The works will be taken up under the Centrally-assisted Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Jyoti Yojna (DDUGJY).
The Gescom proposes to take up works at a cost of Rs. 132.67 crore in Kalaburagi district and at a cost of Rs. 87.24 crore in Yadgir district.
Mr. Kharge said that the Gescom should have consulted elected representatives before preparing the action plan.
The Gescom officials said that originally they had sought an allocation of Rs. 1,532 crore from the Union government to take up works under the DDUGJY in districts and the Union government limited the release to Gescom at Rs. 496.82 crore.
The officials said that Rs. 86.06 crore would be spent in Kalaburagi district for feeder separation works which included separation of agriculture consumers from the non-agriculture consumers and construction of new 11 kV lines. A sum of Rs. 30.77 crore would be spent for replacing existing electro magnet meters with electronic meters and metering feeders. A sum of Rs. 15.84 crore would be spent on system strengthening and distribution system in Kalaburagi district. A sum of Rs. 28 lakh had been allocated for improving electricity network in the Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojna.
In Yadgir district, Rs. 67 crore would be spent for feeder separation work; Rs. 7.72 crore for system strengthening; Rs. 10.28 crore for metering works; and Rs. 2.03 crore for rural household electrification works.
