Annual Day of Manipal College of Nursing held

February 02, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:43 am IST - Manipal:

The 26th annual day of Manipal College of Nursing (MCON) was held here on Saturday. Santu N. Sajan, general manager, Coloumbia Asia Hospital, Whitefield, Bengaluru, was the chief guest.

“If someone can do it, I can do it. If someone else can’t, I still can do it,” Ms. Sajan said. According to a press release issued by the Manipal University here,

Ms. Sajan recalled the memories when she was pursuing her post graduation in MCON a decade ago. However, at present, there are major changes in the healthcare sector, she said.

Nurses not just offer care to patients. They are controlling the healthcare sector and are playing various roles like chief nursing officer, chief executive officer and also as a leader heading the hospital, she said.

“… Nurses are the biggest interface and are an effective member of the healthcare team. It is not easy to get to the lead. One needs to grow from the grassroots- level …,” she said.

“The nursing education, training and experience have enabled my success today. If I can do it, even you can do it … perhaps much better than me. If you want to lead the healthcare team then step out of your comfort zone, find a mentor and value your work. I believe nurses are lifeline of the healthcare system …,” she added.

Meritorious students of B.Sc, Post Basic B.Sc Nursing, M.Sc Nursing and M.Phil were awarded on the occasion. V. Deepika was awarded the best outgoing student in B.Sc Nursing category.

The contribution of Manipal College of Nursing faculty in teaching and research were recognised and awarded. The most accomplished faculty award was presented to Judith Noronha.

Earlier, Ms. Noronha, Associate Dean, Manipal College of Nursing, welcomed the gathering.

Anice George, Dean, MCON, presented the annual college report. Sulochana, Associate Professor, proposed the vote of thanks.
