The Anti-Naxal Force (ANF) have intensified combing in Nuralbettu village and surrounding areas in the Western Ghats on Saturday after posters supporting the naxalite cause were found in the village.
According to the police, as many as five banners and four posters of the banned CPI (Maoist) organisation were found stuck on the walls at a lower primary school, an anganwadi, and a temporary bus shelter at Nuralbettu village. Three flags, seven printed and seven written pamphlets were also confiscated by the police. On them were messages exhorting the public to rise against the government and support them.
It also urged the people to oppose the setting up of the tiger reserve in Kudremukh National Park and also opposed the implementation of K. Kasturirangan report for the conservation of the Western Ghats. The police suspect that naxalites or their sympathisers may be behind the act, which took place in the intervening night between July 29 and 30.
A case had been registered under Sections 143, 121, 121 (a), 124 (a), 505 read with Section 149 of Indian Penal Code, Sections 10 and 13 of Illegal Activities Prevention Act at the Karkala Rural Police Station, and investigations are on, the police said.
