Amma Awards for five writers

Writers S.M. Hiremath, Jayashree Kasaravalli, Rajani Narahalli, Shashikala Veerayya Swamy and Mahantappa Nandur have been selected to receive the “Amma Awards” instituted by the Matoshri Mahadevamma Nagappa Munnur Pratishthan.

Convener of the pratishthan Mahipal Reddy Munnur, who is also the president of district Kannada Sahitya Parishat, released the names of the award winners here on Sunday.

The awards would be presented during the 15th anniversary celebrations of the pratishthan in Sedam town in Kalaburagi district on November 26.

Mr. Munnur said that apart from the five writers getting the awards carrying a cash prize of Rs. 5,000, citation, a plaque, and a shawl, five more personalities from different walks of life have been selected to receive the honorary Amma Awards.

They are: retired High Court of Karnataka judge H.N. Nagmohandas, senior artist V.G. Andani, publisher Venkatesh Hospete, Apparao Akkoni, president of the Lekakara Mattu Odugara Sahakara Sangha, social activist Indira Manvikar, and retired teacher Basavalingamma Patil Sedam.
