Members of the district unit of the Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha staged a dharna at Jayadev Circle here on Monday in protest against the alleged failure of Minister of State of Agriculture Minister Krishna Byre Gowda to protect the interests of farmers.
They raised slogans against the Minister and also burnt his effigy. They alleged that 27 farmers had committed suicide in Haveri district owing to crop loss in the last few months, but the Minister had not responded to the memorandum submitted to him.
The agitators demanded that the minister should resign from his post owning moral responsibility for the increasing number suicides of farmers. The agitation was led by Huchavvanhalli Manjunath, Onkarappa, Karibasappa, Balaji and Ganesh.
