Members of All India Democratic Mahila Association (AIDWA), Centre for Indian Trade Unions (CITU) and Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) staged a protest outside the Deputy Commissioner’s office here on Wednesday demanding the arrest of Raghaveshwara Bharathi Swami of Sri Ramachandrapura Mutt, who is facing charges of sexual harassment and criminal intimidation.

Two FIRs have been filed, one in August 2014 and another a few days ago, against the seer on charges of sexual harassment and criminal intimidation. However, the police have not filed the chargesheet against him even after one year of the first case, they alleged.

The protestors raised slogans against the seer for allegedly sexually assaulting two women and also against the police department for “protecting” the seer.

According to them, the State government has been hesitating to taking action against the seer because of “political pressure.”

The activists have threatened to intensify their agitation if the police department does not file the chargesheet immediately.
