A person accused of illegal ganja transport threw a slipper at the judge, who cancelled his bail at the district court in Bidar on Monday.
The accused Mohammad Raseeoddin charged by the district police under provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, threw a slipper at Hanchate Sanjiv Kumar, principal district and sessions judge, while the court was in session. The slipper missed the judge and fell on the ground near the judge’s podium.
The accused was upset that the judge had cancelled his bail after the police complained that he was trying to threaten police officers before the court proceedings began.
Prakash Nikam, superintendent of police, visited the court later. He told presspersons that separate cases had been registered against the accused for threatening the police officers on duty and throwing the slipper at the judge.
Bidar Bar Association president Anil Kumar Karanji announced that the lawyers were boycotting court on Monday and Tuesday to protest against the attempt to disrespect the court.
Court sources said that the district judge would later take a call on referring the case to another judge after this incident.
