Once a neglected and unhygienic locality, Dewan’s Road — a busy stretch off the city’s key commercial hub, D. Devaraj Urs Road — will soon be turning into a visual treat.

With attractive wall paintings and portraits of eminent personalities, including the former kings of Mysore, the stretch is getting a makeover. Portraits of former kings, dewans, eminent poets, writers and other legends will be put up on the high compound walls of the road. The stretch will also get ornate lamp posts.

Area councillor Ravi Kumar said the stretch is always busy with tourists, given its proximity to D. Devaraj Urs Road. However, it is not the easiest of sites with garbage dumped at various spots. But all that is changing now.

“Keeping with the legacy and beauty of the city, I thought of converting the place into a visual treat by engaging artist Sunil from CAVA (Chamarajendra Academy of Visual Arts) to change the ambience,” Mr. Ravi Kumar said.

He added that the circle leading to the road will get a miniature clock tower.
