SI dies as police car hits boulder in Belagavi taluk

Sub-Inspector Ramachandra Ballari was killed on the spot and Police Inspector Pranesh Yavagal suffered injuries when the car in which they were travelling met with an accident near Maratha Mandal Engineering College on Pune-Bengaluru NH4 under Kakti police station limits of Belagavi taluk on Friday morning.

Yavagal, who suffered a fracture in one leg, has been shifted to a private hospital in Belagavi city.

Circle Police Inspector Ramesh Gokak said the accident occurred around 4 a.m. as Yavagal lost control of the steering and hit a roadside boulder. The car overturned and stopped after after skidding. The two were returning after an official work at Nippani of Chikkodi taluk.

Ballari (35), a native of Gadag district, is survived by his wife and two children. He joined the Police department seven years ago and was attached with the Civil Rights Enforcement Cell in Belagavi. Yavagal is attached with the District Control Room.
