A sense of fear has gripped tourists visiting Hampi after a leopard was spotted amid the rocky hills.

Passers-by have seen the wild cat moving or sitting on top of the rocky hills on several occasions in the last one week.

On Friday evening, the leopard was spotted near the Sister’s Stone, adjacent to the Queen’s Bath.

Earlier, in 2014, a leopard was spotted in the rocky hills near Kaddirampur, adjacent to Hampi. There have been such sightings in the following years too. According to an estimate, there may be six or seven leopards in Hampi.

So far, there has been no report of man-animal conflict in Hampi.

The rocky terrains at Hampi, Anegundi and also the Daroji bear sanctuary have been the habitat of leopards, wild boars, bears, among others.
